About the Role

The department is seeking an experienced Software Engineer – Web Developer to meet emerging needs of the department and business areas.
Key duties and responsibilities
As a Software Engineer (Developer) - Web Developer, you will be required to:
Work as part of a multidisciplinary delivery team and actively participate in agile ceremonies, including planning, estimation and retrospectives.
Design, build and maintain responsive, accessible and scalable web applications that meet user needs and acceptance criteria.
Write clean, well‑structured, testable and maintainable code across front‑end and back‑end components where required.
Collaborate with designers, product owners, testers and other developers to achieve delivery outcomes.
Ensure solutions align with government accessibility, security and usability standards.
Develop and maintain technical documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC).
Requirements

Essential criteria
Demonstrated experience working as a Web Developer within a small specialist or multidisciplinary team in an enterprise class environment.
Demonstrated experience delivering web solutions in a fast-paced agile delivery environment using modern development practices and toolsets.
Strong experience developing web applications using modern frontend technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript).
Experience working with APIs and integrating frontend applications with backend services (e.g. RESTful APIs).
Ability to write clean, maintainable and reusable code with a focus on performance and user experience.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person and via video conferencing.
Desirable criteria
Previous experience working in a government agency, including the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Vue.js, React or similar.
Experience with source control and collaborative development practices (e.g. Git).
Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, or cloud hosted web platforms (e.g. Microsoft Azure).
