The Data Architect is responsible for driving the standardisation of data modelling, data migration and data governance for the Data Platforms Stream and the Indigo Program. This role will facilitate the enterprise data view, oversee data migration efforts and ensure security and compliance throughout the data platforms solutions.

The candidate must hold an active Baseline security clearance prior to commencement.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Drive standardisation of data modelling, migration, and data governance for the Indigo Program. Develop and implement standardised data modelling practices to ensure consistency and accuracy across all data-related activities.
  • Working with the BAU Data Governance function, establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to maintain data integrity and quality.
  • Facilitate the enterprise data view by creating a comprehensive enterprise data model that provides a unified view of data across the organisation; collaborating with various stakeholders to understand their business data needs and integrate them into the enterprise data model; ensuring the enterprise data view supports business intelligence and analytics requirements.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of data migration tasks, ensuring they are completed on time; coordinate with IT and business teams to identify data migration requirements and develop appropriate solutions; monitor and report on the progress of data migration requirements, addressing any issues and risks that arise.
  • Identify security measures to protect sensitive data during migration and storage; ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and standards; conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential criteria

  1. 3 years of hands-on experience with data modelling, governance and/or migration and experience with team management.
  2. Demonstrated ability to use best practice data management methods and suitable data analysis tools and techniques.
  3. Expert knowledge of metadata management and related tools and knowledge of mathematical foundations and statistical analysis.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to understand and manage stakeholder expectations to deliver data-driven solutions.
  5. Proficient in writing technical documentation using appropriate templates/version control and experience with developing data warehouse, data lake, and enterprise big data solutions within cloud-platforms.
  6. Excellent problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.

Desirable criteria

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a similar field.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of Commonwealth frameworks, including ICT frameworks and Resource Management and data storage and warehousing solutions.
  3. Certifications or training evidence in Data Management.
