Role Title: SAP Reporting & Analytics Specialist (BDC: Datasphere and SAC / ECC and S/4HANA)

SFIA Level: 5

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing is seeking the services of an SAP BW and SAC support specialist, with potential involvement in BDC/ Datasphere, to work within the departments ERP Technologies section on full time bases.

The SAP BW and SAC Contractor should possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work effectively in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have 10 years or more of experience in SAP BW and SAC technical support roles. 


Key duties and responsibilities

The key duties and responsibilities will include and not be limited to:
Provide specialist SAP reporting and analytics services to support the transition from legacy SAP ECC/BW/SAC solutions to a modern analytics architecture based on SAP Datasphere, S/4HANA Embedded Analytics, and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).
Design, build, enhance, and support enterprise reporting solutions leveraging: 

  • SAP Datasphere.
  • S/4HANA Embedded Analytics (CDS Views, Analytical Queries, Fiori apps).
  • SAP Analytics Cloud for reporting, dashboards, and planning.

Analyse and assess existing SAP BW and SAC reports and recommend: 

  • Migration to SAP Datasphere.
  • Replacement with S/4HANA Embedded Analytics where standard. capabilities meet business needs.
  • Decommissioning of redundant or low value reports.

Work closely with business stakeholders to: 

  • Capture and refine reporting and analytics requirements.
  • Translate business needs into functional and technical specifications.
  • Provide advice on best fit reporting solutions across SAP and the BDC platform.

Perform data modelling and integration activities, including: 

  • Datasphere data models, views, and spaces.
  • Integration of SAP and non SAP data sources via the BDC platform.
  • Ensuring data quality, consistency, and performance.

Support testing activities including: 

  • Unit and system testing.
  • Coordination and support of User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Defect resolution and optimisation.
  • Use Azure DevOps and test automation capabilities as required and develop/maintain relevant test scripts and documentation.

Provide Level 2 and Level 3 production support for SAP reporting and analytics solutions, including: 

  • Incident and problem investigation.
  • Performance tuning and optimisation.
  • Root cause analysis and remediation.

Ensure all reporting solutions comply with: 

  • Departmental ICT standards and governance.
  • Security, privacy, and data management policies.
  • Service delivery and change management processes.
  • Produce and maintain appropriate documentation including:
  • Technical designs and data models.
  • Operational support documentation.
  • Knowledge transfer materials for internal teams.

Provide effort estimates, delivery status updates, and contribute to planning activities to ensure delivery within agreed timeframes and budget.
Actively contribute to uplifting the capability of APS staff within the ERP Technologies and reporting teams through:

  • Structured knowledge sharing.
  • Handson mentoring and coaching.
  • Clear documentation of solutions, designs, and operational procedures.

Ensure knowledge transfer is embedded into day-to-day delivery, so that APS staff can progressively support, maintain, and enhance SAP reporting and analytics solutions.
Maintain up to date knowledge of the SAP SaaS ecosystem, including new and enhanced features released across:

  • SAP Datasphere.
  • SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • SAP S/4HANA Embedded Analytics.

Proactively assess new SAP capabilities and, where appropriate: 

  • Advise the department on potential use cases.
  • Demonstrate practical application.
  • Deliver solutions using newly released functionality when called upon.
  • Take ownership for building capability in new SAP services.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in SAP reporting and analytics roles, with strong hands-on expertise across:
    • SAP BW (legacy support and transition).
    • SAP Datasphere (including BW Bridge concepts).
    • SAP Analytics Cloud (reporting, dashboards, and planning).
  • Strong experience with S/4HANA Embedded Analytics, including:
    • CDS Views (Basic, Composite, Consumption).
    • Analytical Queries.
    • Fiori analytical applications.
    • Use of standard S/4HANA content to replace custom reporting where possible.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing data models and reporting solutions in a hybrid SAP landscape, integrating SAP and non-SAP data sources.
  • Demonstrated understanding of modern data and analytics architectures, including:
  • Cloud based data platforms.
  • Data virtualisation and replication approaches.
  • Integration patterns aligned to an enterprise BDC platform.

Technical Capabilities

  • Handson experience with:
    • SAP Datasphere modelling, spaces, and security concepts.
    • SAC story design, performance optimisation, and user enablement.
    • SAP HANA data modelling concepts
  • Experience supporting or migrating from:
    • SAP BW
    • Working knowledge of SAP BTP, including its role in analytics, integration, and extensibility.
    • Experience with SAP ERP and S/4HANA data structures, including finance and logistics reporting.

Business and Consulting Skills

  • Strong ability to engage with business stakeholders to:
    • Understand reporting and analytical needs.
    • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardise reporting.
    • Recommend pragmatic solutions using standard SAP capabilities.
  • Experience documenting requirements using functional specifications or user stories.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly understand complex business processes and data.
  • Experience working in, or with, public sector organisations is highly desirable, including understanding of finance and planning processes.
